分洪闸  建于河道的一侧,用来分泄河道洪水的水闸。当上游来水超过下游河道安全泄量时,为确保河道下游地区免受洪灾,将超过下游河道安全泄量的洪水经分洪闸泄入湖泊、洼地等预定的分洪区暂时存蓄,待洪水过后,再排入原河道,或泄入分洪道直接分流入海。分洪闸宜建于河流弯道凹岸的顶点稍偏下游处,使能充分利用弯道环流减少或防止闸前泥沙淤积,以保证分洪能力。分洪闸一般采用开敞式。闸底槛高程,多与河道滩地地面接近。闸孔总宽度,应能保证通过最大分洪流量。分洪初期,闸上下游水位差及过闸单宽流量都较大,过闸水流的冲刷能力很强。因此,对分洪闸下游的消能防冲问题,应予十分重视,并须采取有效措施,常需借助水力模型试验研究确定。为使水流平顺地进入分洪道,防止下游河床及两岸遭受冲刷,分洪闸下游连接段一般都较长。鉴于洪水来临时,洪峰历时短暂,分洪闸门应能迅速开启,及时分洪,削减洪峰,保证下游河道安全。因此,分洪闸虽不经常使用,但须经常注意维护管理,并制定严格的闸门操作规程,确保正常运用。中国在20世纪50年代于湖北省建有著名的荆江分洪闸,在河北省建有独流减河分洪闸等工程,迄今已30余年,运行情况良好。
