尖晶石尖晶石spinel镁铝的氧化物矿物(MgAl2O4)。化学成分中类质同象替代很普遍,常可含铁、锌、铬、锰等。等轴晶系,晶体常呈八面体和八面体与菱形十二面体的聚形。以八面体面为双晶面和接合面构成尖晶石律双晶。无色,含色素离子时可呈红、蓝、绿、褐、黄等色。玻璃光泽。莫氏硬度8,比重3.55。由接触交代作用或结晶于基性、超基性火成岩中,透明而色泽艳丽者是高档宝石材料。
