艺术体操艺术体操rhythmicsportivegymnastics徒手或手持轻器械，在音乐伴奏下以自然性和韵律性动作为基础的女子竞技体操。动作包括走、跑、跳、转体、平衡和身体各部位的摆动、绕环、波浪、屈伸等。艺术体操起源于19世纪末、20世纪初的欧洲，后传入美洲和亚洲，逐渐流行于全世界。1962年6月，国际体操联合会定为独立的女子竞赛项目，并于1963年在匈牙利布达佩斯举行首届世界艺术体操锦标赛。从1978年开始，国际体操联合会又组织欧洲锦标赛和四大洲（亚洲、大洋洲、北美洲和拉丁美洲）锦标赛。1980年7月，国际奥林匹克委员会将艺术体操列为奥运会的竞赛项目，并决定在1984年第二十三届奥运会上举行个人项目的比赛，从1992年第二十五届起举行个人和集体项目的比赛。艺术体操20世纪50年代初期，中国从苏联引进艺术体操的基本技术。1981年首次参加第十届世界艺术体操锦标赛。在1984年洛杉矶奥运会、1988年汉城奥运会和1992年巴塞罗那奥运会上，均派有两名队员参赛。艺术体操以前苏联、保加利亚等国水平最高，日本、朝鲜的实力也较强，亚洲和美洲一些国家的水平也在迅速提高。艺术体操比赛有它独立的竞赛方法和评分规则。比赛用的轻器械有绳、圈、球、棒、带5种。在世界大型比赛中，个人比赛在12米×12米，集体比赛在13米×13米铺有地毯或地板的场地上进行。
