大洋中尺度涡大洋中尺度涡oceanmeso-scaleeddies叠加在海洋平均流场上的、尺度从几十千米至几百千米的水平流旋。按起源和生存方式可分成流环、流环式中尺度涡和中大洋中尺度涡3种。①流环。起源于大洋西边界的西向强化流。在湾流和黑潮中常出现海流弯曲现象,当弯曲程度很大时,便出现冷涡和暖涡,它们脱离了母流,而形成了直径100~300千米的流环。其表层旋转的线速率可高达90~150厘米/秒。此速率随深度而降低。流旋的持续时间可达2~3年。②流环式中尺度涡。生存于北大西洋的冷水区中,强度约为流环的一半,宽度则比流环大1倍。属于冷涡。③中大洋中尺度涡。在地球上的海洋中几乎无处不有。具有5~50厘米/秒的旋转速率,向下可延伸到整个水柱。存在的周期从几周至几个月。
