大洋中尺度涡大洋中尺度涡oceanmeso-scaleeddies叠加在海洋平均流场上的、尺度从几十千米至几百千米的水平流旋。按起源和生存方式可分成流环、流环式中尺度涡和中大洋中尺度涡3种。①流环。起源于大洋西边界的西向强化流。在湾流和黑潮中常出现海流弯曲现象，当弯曲程度很大时，便出现冷涡和暖涡，它们脱离了母流，而形成了直径100～300千米的流环。其表层旋转的线速率可高达90～150厘米／秒。此速率随深度而降低。流旋的持续时间可达2～3年。②流环式中尺度涡。生存于北大西洋的冷水区中，强度约为流环的一半，宽度则比流环大1倍。属于冷涡。③中大洋中尺度涡。在地球上的海洋中几乎无处不有。具有5～50厘米／秒的旋转速率，向下可延伸到整个水柱。存在的周期从几周至几个月。
