《天工开物》Exploitation of the Works of Naturetiɑngong kɑiwu《天工开物》(卷名:纺织)Exploitation of the Works of Nature  全面论述中国明末以前农、副业和手工业生产技术的百科全书式著作。作者宋应星,字长庚,江西奉新人。万历十五年(1587)生。他潜心实学,对各门生产技术都作了广泛的调查研究。书中记述的许多生产技术,一直沿用到近代。其中“乃服”和“彰施”两篇全面介绍了当时的纺织和染整技术。就纺织、染整来说,《天工开物》并未大量转引前人著作,而是直接描述当时的生产,而且具体记录了工艺参数和尺寸。例如在整经工序中,列出“边维”(织物边纱的穿法),“经数”(经纱总根数);在“织机”一段中增列了“腰机”;而对花楼织机“花机”的附图也比前人著作更为细致,注明了各部件的名称,文字说明也极详细。此外,如“花本”(织大花纹时提起经纱的程序存贮器)、“穿经”(穿综和插筘)、“分名”(对罗、纱、绉纱、罗地、绢地、绫地、缎、秋罗等分别下了定义),在同时代的《农政全书》中也未见载。“熟丝”一节论述了用猪胰(生物酶)脱胶的方法。在棉纺织方面,《天工开物》的记载也有特点:如“赶棉图”中轧车(轧棉机)下面用炭盆火烘;“弹棉”图中画出了悬弓的使用法。书中对棉布后整理介绍甚详,关于轧光整理还记载了轧布用的碾石所应具备的性质。“褐毡”一节专门论述了毛纺生产。其中特别提到绒线生产和山羊绒的利用。还记录了当时的重型毛织机有 8片综、4踏轮,梭子长1.2尺。书中说明毛纺织技术是由西北地区少数民族中发展起来的。“彰施”篇中,对20余种颜色从配料到染法的介绍颇为具体。另有“蓝靛”、“红花”、“造红花饼法”、“燕脂”、“槐花”等专节,对植物染料制法记录甚详。书中介绍的毛青布的染法,近代农村中仍在沿用。       《天工开物》曾先后被译成日、法、英文,流传甚广。日本学者认为,作为回顾在悠久历史过程中发展起来的中国技术全貌的书籍,是没有比它再合适的了;“在整个德川时代(1603~1867)已为各方面的学者所阅读”,“能进而了解到日本的固有技术从中国吸取来的是如何丰富”(日本薮内清:《关于天工开物》)。 周启澄
