前毛虫属  原生动物门纤毛动物亚门动基片纲内毛目头毛料的1属、通称前毛虫。营寄生生活,体纤毛和前庭纤毛大部已退化,剩下的纤毛也已合并成簇,称合纤毛。有的种类尚能见到排列成螺旋带的痕迹。表膜坚固而厚实,向后端常伸出齿。许多种类具有骨板。大多数种类广泛寄生于哺乳动物(以偶蹄类和奇蹄类为主),有些种类寄生于类人猿中。代表种为无尾前毛虫(图1),体呈茄状,微向腹弯,体长90~180微米。身体只剩下口围区和背区有纤毛器。口围纤毛器由周缘层和内层组成,两层之间被耸起的细胞质埂所隔。周缘层的小膜带自身体左边开始,顺时针旋转一圈,终止于胞口边缘的左边。内层由细而柔的纤毛组成,在周缘层旋转结束时,以反时针方向在胞口边缘旋转一圈。胞口和胞咽都位于前端外质层内,围绕胞咽有一围咽环。有很发达的咽牵缩丝,其纤维分布到内质中部。背纤毛器低于口围纤毛器,由强壮的小膜组成,有背部从左到右只旋转半圈。口围纤毛器和背纤毛器之间突出为身体的前顶。遇到外界刺激时,两种纤毛器都收缩到体内,只剩其基部的唇边盖在体外。身体表膜有许多细微的纵条。细胞质分明显的内、外质,内质象个口袋,通过外质的胞口和胞肛与外界相通。在表膜下有 3块呈蜂窝状的骨板。身体右边有两个伸缩泡,前伸缩泡较后伸缩泡大,各有一个小孔开口在表膜。内质有大核,呈香肠状,内有颗粒状的染色质。在大核中部有一个内凹,埋有圆形致密的小核。内质袋内有许多食物泡(图2)。      在牛、羊瘤胃内的前毛虫行厌氧生活,消化植物碎片,并从胃内食物中吸收糖分。它们只能在碱性和微酸性的瘤胃中生存,在酸性的重瓣胃中很快死去。从瘤胃落到重瓣胃的纤毛虫尸体能提供家畜所需蛋白质量的 1/5。纤毛虫所水解的植物纤维产物能被宿主吸收,可提供宿主所需能量的1/5。因此,前毛虫与宿主之间是共生关系。
