绒鼠绒鼠科又称毛丝鼠科,现存有绒鼠、山绒鼠和平原绒鼠3个属,是特产南美洲南部的中型啮齿类,均身披浓密的丝状绒毛。绒鼠体型较小,毛质更优,属于所有动物中最优质最昂贵的毛质,其野外种群也因此受到威胁。绒鼠相貌可爱,也被普遍当作宠物来饲养,被称为“龙猫”。山绒鼠有很长的耳朵,外形极似有长尾的兔子,大小也与兔子相仿。平原绒鼠耳朵较短,面部有黑色条纹,易于辨认。平原绒鼠的雌雄差别很大,雄鼠体重是雌鼠的两倍,重达8公斤,是绒鼠科体型最大的成员。
