桉树真的会给环境造成破坏吗?有人肯定:桉树是优质的造纸制浆工业用材,培育短轮伐期制浆桉林是山区脱贫致富的好门路。有人担心:发展速生丰产桉林会破坏地力、污染环境。桉树因其速生性,需要供给大量的养分,其生长过程对土壤肥力的消耗确实较大,这是显而易见的。林业工程技术人员对此早有预见,已制订了一系列有效措施,消除其负面影响,实现林地的可持续利用。例如,给林地增施鸡粪、土杂肥;林下间种植物、牧草;桉树与有固氮作用的相思类带状混交;保留枯枝落叶等。这些措施有效地缓和了地力的衰退。有一种说法,认为桉树是“抽水机”,会降低地下水位,其林下不长草。事实果真如此吗?据有关专家测定,桉树的蒸腾率和单株叶面积都不比其他阔叶树高,由于桉树的速生性,每生产单位生物量所消耗的水分和养分都比其他阔叶树低。应该承认,在降雨量稀少的干旱地区,林木的蒸腾作用可加剧地下水位的下降。如非洲的肯尼亚,1987年由总统下令不再发展桉树。而桉树适宜栽培地区雨量充沛,年降雨量都在1500毫米左右,即使桉树的蒸腾率比其他阔叶树较高,但在这些地区桉树与其他阔叶树一样都具有涵养水源的作用,桉树不但不会像“抽水机”那样降低地下水位,相反其涵养水源的作用更加明显。至于林下不长草的说法,据对泰国顺和成公司在广东省汕尾市营造的8000公顷速生桉林地的调查,在山区从未见桉林下不长草的现象,由于土壤肥沃,桉林下灌木杂草既高又密,进入林内步履艰难,不得不使用除草剂除草。惟有在沿海严重剥蚀,原本就是“光板地”的新造桉林地草灌稀少,但随着林分形成,生物生存环境改善,草灌也就逐渐繁延茂盛。还有一种说法,认为桉树会释放有毒物质,对农作物和人畜有害,这是毫无科学依据的。现代科学研究表明,迄今尚未发现桉树会释放任何有毒物质。粤西有五十余年的桉树栽培历史,目前80%以上林地都种桉树,加工木片出口已成为当地的支柱产业,至今都没有种桉树释放毒素污染环境的说法。相反,人们还提取桉油作为名贵香料。桉树因其速生性,干物质的迅速积累过程需要吸收空气中大量的二氧化碳。所以桉树吸收二氧化碳和释放氧气的能力远远超过非速生树种,桉树是提高空气质量减缓温室效应,改善生态的“功臣”。速生丰产桉林是商品林,而非公益林。营造工业制浆桉林目的是生产木材,追求最大的经济效益,同时兼有生态效益。由于桉树的速生性,其单位面积所生产的木材产量是非速生树种的十几倍,它承担了人们日益增长的木材需求量,减少了对其他树种的木材需求和开采,间接地保护了生态公益林等其他林种。当然,种桉树一定要合理规划,不能盲目发展,要限制在降雨量稀少的干旱地区发展桉树,禁止在坡度30°以上的山地种植桉树,绝不能在国家明确规定的生态林上发展桉树林。这样,种桉树与种其他树种一样,都发挥着保持水土、改善生存环境的作用。(源自中国绿色时报)
