定基价格指数与环比价格指数 价格指数根据基期的不同，分为定基价格指数与环比价格指数。 定基价格指数 在一个价格指数数列中，每个指数都以同一时期为基期计算的价格指数。中国通常以某一年为基期来计算。其特点是无论计算期如何变动，其基期固定不变。编制定基价格指数的目的在于观察物价变动长期趋势及其规律。 式中P0Pn为基期和某个计算期的商品价格；Qn为某个计算期的商品成交数量。 环比价格指数 在一个价格指数数列中，每个指数都以计算期的前期为基期而计算的价格指数。其特点是基期随计算期的变动而有规律的变动。编制环比价格指数的目的在于观察物价的逐期变动趋势和程度。以前期为基期(月指数为上月、季指数为上季、年指数为上年)的价格指数称环比价格指数；以上年同期为基期（月指数为上年同月，季指数为上年同季）的价格指数称年距环比价格指数。 关系 定基价格指数和环比价格指数之间有着密切的联系。如果不需加权或按同一不变权数加权，各个时期环比指数连乘之积必然等于定基指数。在不需要加权时，其数学关系是： 需要加权而权数相同时，只是分子分母同乘一个固定的权数，上述等式关系依然存在。同理，环比指数也可通过定基指数相除求得。 在环比的每个指数采用变动数加权的情况下（除特殊条件外），一般不存在上述数学关系。 中国直接编制各种定基价格指数有较大困难，因此一般根据环比价格指数来推算定基价格指数。
