大陆坡大陆坡continentalslope大陆架向海一侧,从陆架外缘较陡地下降到深海底的斜坡。它展布于所有大陆周缘,为全球性地形单元。大陆坡上界水深多在100~200米之间;下界往往是渐变1500~3500米水深,但在邻近海沟地带,陆坡下延至更深处。大陆坡宽度约为20~100千米以上,总面积计2870万平方千米,占全球面积5.6%。大陆坡坡度多为3°~6°,1800米深度以上的平均坡度为4°17′。大陆坡底质以泥为主,还有少量砂砾和生物碎屑。大陆坡基底为变薄的大陆型地壳。陆坡上还有褶皱、断裂构造,一些陆上构造线可延伸至陆坡。由于河流径流和海洋上升流作用,陆坡沉积物中可含有丰富的有机质,陆坡上有巨厚沉积层的地方具有良好的油气远景。还可有锰结核、磷灰石、海绿石等矿产。在陆坡一些上升流区可形成渔场。
