轨道寿命轨道寿命orbitlifetime人造地球卫星在轨道上存留的时间。在地球的上空存在一个大气层,卫星在大气层中运动时,因受到大气阻力的持续作用,机械能逐渐变小,卫星的轨道逐渐降低。轨道越低下降得越快。当它变成100多千米高的近圆轨道时,卫星将进入稠密大气层,结束其寿命。卫星的轨道寿命与轨道高度及所受的大气阻力有关,轨道越高寿命越长。高度超过1000千米的卫星,其寿命甚至可达千年以上,而高度低于200千米的卫星寿命最长只有几十天。大气阻力与大气密度及卫星沿速度方向的投影面积成正比,与卫星的质量成反比,此外还与卫星的外形有关。对于轨道很低的侦察卫星,由于轨道寿命很短,为了使其在轨道上工作较长的时间,必须携带相当多的燃料,定期开启星上轨控发动机,使降低的轨道恢复到原来的高度。
