木聚糖  俗称半纤维素。木聚糖与纤维素结合,普遍存在于植物细胞壁中,在玉米芯、甘蔗渣中含量丰富。木聚糖是半纤维素中主要的结构形式,由β-D-木吡喃糖以1→4键连接。它们的性质和组成迄今尚未确定。    一些木聚糖常含有少量其他的糖,如 L-阿拉伯糖、D-葡萄糖、D-半乳糖、D-甘露糖、D-葡萄糖醛酸和D-半乳糖醛酸等,它们常以接枝的方式形成支链。木聚糖溶于稀碱中,可与纤维素分开。木聚糖与强酸共热水解,是工业上制备糠醛的方法。在稀酸中水解,得木糖,是制备木糖醇的主要原料。
