铱铱iridium一种化学元素。化学符号Ir,原子序数77,原子量192.22,属周期系Ⅷ族,为铂系元素的成员。1803年英国S.坦南特、法国H.-V.科莱-德斯科蒂、A.F.de富尔克鲁瓦和N.-L.沃克兰用王水溶解粗铂时,发现残留的黑色粉末中有一种新元素,坦南特于1804年把它命名为iridium,该字来源于拉丁文iris,含义是“彩虹”。铱在地壳中的含量为1×10-7%,常与其他铂系元素一起分散在冲积矿床和砂积矿床的多种矿物(如原铂矿、镍黄铁矿、硫化镍铜矿、磁铁矿)中。独立矿物有砷铂铱矿、硫铱锇钌矿。还以游离状态存在于自然合金(如铱锇合金)中。铱是银白色金属,熔点2410℃,沸点4130℃,密度22.421克/厘米3。硬而脆,很难进行机械加工,但在高温下可压成薄片和拉成细丝。铱的化学性质很不活泼,块状金属在空气中加热时会形成二氧化铱薄膜,加热时可与氟、氯发生反应。铱不溶于酸和王水,只有在强氧化剂(如氯酸钠)存在下才于120℃和盐酸发生反应。铱的氧化态为+2、+3、+4、+6。铱容易形成配位化合物,如[Ir(NH3)5Cl]Cl2。铂精矿或铱的自然合金用王水处理后的残渣或有色金属电解产生的阳极泥经一系列化学处理后可得六氯合铱(Ⅳ)酸铵,在1000℃氢气流中可被还原为金属铱粉。保存在巴黎的国际标准米尺用90%铂和10%铱的合金制成。铂铱合金还用于制造自来水笔笔尖、电阻丝、实验室器皿等,铑铱合金可制高温热电偶。铱还可做有机物氢化、脱氢、氧化反应的催化剂。
