碲碲tellurium一种化学元素。化学符号Te，原子序数52，原子量127.60，属周期系ⅥA族。1782年奥地利F.J.米勒·冯·赖兴施泰因在一种含金的矿石里提取出一种银灰色金属，但不能确定其为何物。1797年德国M.H.克拉普罗特重新研究这种矿物，制得碲，并确认它是一种新元素，其英文名称来源于拉丁文tellus，含义是地球。碲在地壳中的含量为2×10-7％。自然界中只有极少量的碲以游离状态存在，以化合物形式存在的碲矿物也很少，如叶碲矿〔（Ag，Pb）2（Te，S，Sb）3〕、叶碲金矿〔（Ag，Au）Te2〕。大量的碲分散在铜、银、铅的矿物中，在冶炼铜、银、铅时产生的阳极泥和烟道灰中都含有碲。碲是银白色带金属光泽的固体，熔点452℃，沸点1390℃，密度6.25克／厘米3。有两种同素异形体：无定形碲和晶形碲。碲在空气或氧气中燃烧，生成二氧化碲。三氧化碲则要用碲酸钾和三氧化硫的反应制取。碲的含氧酸有亚碲酸和碲酸，这些碲的氧化物及其含氧酸都是氧化剂。碲和氢作用生成碲化氢，是无色可燃性气体，碲不溶于水和非氧化性的酸，可溶于浓硫酸、浓硝酸和热的强碱溶液。碲的氧化态为＋1、＋2、＋4、＋6和－2，毒性比硒小。用硫酸处理各种含碲残渣，可得亚碲酸，再用二氧化硫还原得粗碲。用电解法精炼可得纯度为99.99％的碲，用真空蒸馏法进一步提纯，可得99.999％的碲。碲加到钢中，可增加钢的延性。铸铁中含碲，可使表面坚硬和耐磨，碲加到铅中可提高铅的硬度。碲的化合物用作玻璃着色剂。
