原盐 在盐田晒制的海盐及在天然盐湖或盐矿开采出的未经人工处理的湖盐或岩盐等的统称。主要组分是氯化钠，夹杂有不溶性泥沙和可溶性的钙、镁盐类。 食盐在人类的发展史上起了重要的作用，中国早在周朝（约公元前 11世纪～前256年）就有煮海水制食盐的记载，秦朝（公元前221～前206）时四川成都、华阳等地已开凿卤井，汲取地下卤水熬制食盐，在1637年写成的《天工开物》中已收有“凿井图”（见图）。1980年中国原盐的产量已达17.28Mt。 原盐生产有四种方法：①用露天开采法或地下溶浸法开采岩盐。②由盐湖开采自沉积湖盐。③海水和盐湖水经盐田日晒制取海盐和湖盐。④用人工熬煮或真空蒸法从天然卤水中制取。中国原盐资源丰富，有海盐、四川自贡的井盐，青海茶卡的湖盐，贵州、云南的岩盐。世界各国根据本国的资源情况生产原盐，1982年世界原盐产量约165Mt。原盐作为化学工业用的原料,必须进行处理。处理方法是将原盐加水配成一定浓度的盐水，其中机械杂质可用澄清和过滤的方法除去，化学杂质则根据要求用加化学药剂的方法除去。例如纯碱工业中的盐水精制，用石灰、纯碱法或石灰、氨、二氧化碳法除去Ca2+、Mg2+等杂质；氯碱工业用烧碱、氯化钡、纯碱的方法除去盐水中Ca2+、Mg2+、SO厈等杂质。原盐是人们生活必需品。此外，又可作为基本的化工原料，主要用于生产纯碱、烧碱、氯酸钠、氯气、漂白粉、金属钠等。在陶瓷、医药、饲料方面也有广泛用途。
