大气污染连续自动监测系统 对城市或地区的大气质量进行连续、自动的采样和测定，并对测定的数据进行传输和处理的实时监测网。 20世纪50年代起，一些国家开始建立地区性和全国性的大气采样网，进行定时手工间歇采样或24小时累积采样器采样。随着工业的发展,大气污染日益严重,已建立的大气采样网，从监测的项目、时间分辨率和空间分辨率等方面不能反映污染的短期变化与人群急性发病的关系。因此，美国于1962年开始在全国六个主要城市建立大气污染连续自动监测系统，对一氧化碳、氮氧化物、二氧化硫、总氧化剂、总烃等进行连续监测。从60年代末到70年代初，日本、荷兰、德意志联邦共和国、英国等相继建立起大气污染连续自动监测系统。 大气污染连续自动监测系统是由若干个固定监测站、一个监测中心和数据通信系统三部分组成。各固定监测站的布局可按几何图形(如方格坐标)平均布点，也可按城市功能分区随机布点。固定监测站设置的密度取决于区域污染程度、污染面积、人口数量、气象条件、地形地貌等因素。每个固定监测站内设有采样装置、各种污染物浓度连续自动监测仪器和气象参数测定仪器等。监测站的监测项目是由监测系统设置的任务决定的。通常监测的项目有二氧化硫、飘尘、一氧化碳、氮氧化物、臭氧、总烃及风向、风速、温度、湿度、日照等（见大气污染常规分析指标）。各监测站连续测出的污染浓度和气象数据，经数据通信系统定时地（例如每 5分钟一次）遥传至监测中心。监测中心设有小型电子计算机和各种外围设备，执行数据收集（汇集各监测站的各项实时数据）、数据运算（计算时平均、日平均、月平均浓度、最大值、最小值、超标频数等）、数据显示（打印作表、绘制污染图形及CRT直接显示等）的功能,并且执行向各监测站发出各种指令（开机、停机、校正仪器的零点及跨度等）和向各污染源、行政管理部门发出警报等功能。大气污染连续自动监测系统的组成除设有固定监测站外，有的设有流动监测站，以补充固定站的不足，并设置垂直监测站，监测气象因素和污染物的垂直分布，以了解远距离污染物的迁移情况。 大气污染连续自动监测系统所提供的长期的连续的实时数据可用来判断该地区的污染现状、污染趋势，评价污染控制措施的有效程度，研究污染对人们健康及对其他环境的危害，并为制定空气质量标准，验证污染扩散模式，以及进行污染预报，设计污染源的预警戒控制系统等提供依据。 1977年联合国环境规划署、世界卫生组织和世界气象组织在公布的《全球环境监测系统城市与工业区大气监测工作计划的设计》文件中，对大气污染连续自动监测系统的设计、监测点的选择、质量保证、数据处理等提出了指导原则。
