太湖太湖中国第三大淡水湖。位于江苏省南部的长江口南侧。古称震泽,又名笠泽。由长江与钱塘江所挟带的大量泥沙,在河口地段不断淤积,形成沙嘴,两大沙嘴相对伸展,堰塞古海湾变成与海水隔离的潟湖,湖水再经淡化演变成淡水湖泊。湖长65千米,平均宽33.5千米,湖水面积2425平方千米。平均水深2.10米,最大水深仅3.33米,蓄水量51.5亿立方米,是一个大型浅水湖泊。湖中岛屿较多,占湖泊面积的4.7%,以西洞庭山为最大。太湖水源除湖面直接接纳大气降水外,主要来源有:①来自宜溧山地的荆溪(也称南溪),收纳宜溧山地北麓和茅山东麓诸水,以及洮、滆湖水系,至宜兴以东分60多条港渎,经大浦、百渎诸口入湖。②来自浙江省西部天目山的苕溪,收纳天目山东北坡东、西二苕溪以及杭嘉湖平原其他河流来水,在湖州以北分70多条溇港,经大钱口、小梅口、夹浦口入湖。③来自江南运河,引来自江阴以上的长江水。运河环太湖北、东、南三面。北岸河港通长江,南岸河港连太湖。1958年后,通江各口已先后建闸控制,防止江水倒灌,使江南运河在水利上发挥了蓄、泄、引的作用。太湖出口,集中分布在湖的东部和北部,分别由沙墩港、胥口港、瓜泾口、南库口和太浦口等70多条大小河港下泄,经吴淞江(苏州河)、黄浦江、望虞河、浏河等排入长江。其中黄浦江泄水量占90%。太湖地处江南水网区,河网调蓄量大,因而湖水位变化幅度小,历年水位变幅介于0.70~2.43米。各站多年平均水位界于3.00~3.14米之间(吴淞基面)。水产资源丰富,鱼类以梅鲚、银鱼、草、青、鲢、鳙、鲤、鲫、鳊、鲂、鲌等为主,虾、蟹、螺、蚌、蚬等也很丰富。水生植物有莲藕、茭白、慈菇、芡实、水芋等。沿岸风景秀丽,盛产水稻、茶叶、杨梅、枇杷、橘子,素有鱼米之乡之称。太湖风光
