寂照1 佛学术语。寂，寂静之意；照，照鉴之意。智之本体为空寂，有观照之作用，即坐禅之当体、止观。大乘无生方便门（大八五·一二七四中）：‘寂而常用，用而常寂；即用即寂，离相名寂，寂照照寂。寂照者，因性起相；照寂者，摄相归性。’2 （962～1034）日本天台宗僧。又作寂昭。京都人，俗名大江定基、三河圣。敕号圆通大师（宋真宗敕赐）。世称文章博士。痛失爱妻后出家为僧。师事寂心（庆滋保胤）。随源信学台教，随仁海学密教，其后游巡诸国。未久，获准入宋，于长保五年（1003）渡海来宋，参谒真宗，蒙赐紫衣。又至天台山参访礼拜，且呈上源信所托付之天台宗疑问二十七条。后欲归返日本，为宋朝僧界所挽留。仁宗景佑元年示寂于杭州，世寿七十三。师学通内外，持律严正，道俗归仰，相传有飞钵受斋、文殊灵感等之应验。
