留给老年人一方绿色空间随着老年人比例的增多，社会老龄化问题日益突出，对于正迅速到来的老年社会，我们的城市还未做好准备提供充足的适合老人的室外公共活动场地。对于中国大多数城市，现实情况是土地有限、资金不足，如何在现有条件下为广大老年人创造足够的室外公共休憩空间是规划师和园林师当前应当认真研究的问题，想迅速地扩大公共绿地的面积和数量是不可能的。我认为明智的做法是：．(1)提高现有公园的质量，设置老年人专用场地，充分发挥其价值。(2)有步骤地按服务半径、服务人数及年龄结构要求选择最佳位置增加新的开放式公共绿地。(3)充分利用街角、路边的零星空间以及公共建筑物的附属空间，建设袖珍休闲绿地，这将是老人们使用频率最高的一种。上述这些方法提高了一般性公共绿地的面积和数量，为老年人提供了休息、娱乐、交往、运动的场所以及与年轻人接触的机会。另外，我们还可以开辟一定数量的老年公园，提供一些轻微的体力劳动，让老人参与公园的维护管理甚至规划建设，使他们能够共享社会公务，发现生活的新意义。——摘自《中国花卉报》2002.8/13
