武当山武当山位于中国湖北省丹江口市境内。一名太和山。山体呈西北-东南走向，为大巴山东段分支。以陡峭中山为主，一般海拔在1000米左右，主峰天柱峰海拔1612米，山中林木茂密，树种繁多。还有多种野生动物。以天柱峰为中心的“武当山风景名胜区”山峦清秀、风景幽奇，古建筑众多，面积约60平方千米。有72峰、36岩、24涧、11洞、3潭、10泉、10池、9井、10石、9台等胜景。主要分布在天柱峰以北。武当山还是著名道教圣地和武当派武术的发源地。唐初即在此建祠。元大德八年(1304)封“武当福地”，从此名声大振。明永乐十年(1412)成祖命工部役使30万民夫在此大兴土木。历时10年，建成拥有8宫2观、36庵堂、72岩庙、39桥、12亭的庞大建筑群，绵延70千米。现在保存较好的有金殿、古铜殿、南岩、遇真宫、玉虚宫、元和观以及玄岳门、磨针井等。这些建筑多坐落在险峻之处。宫观建筑及内部的铜铸泥塑、木石雕刻，均有较高的艺术价值。武当山古建筑群已被联合国教科文组织列为世界文化遗产。
