李雅普诺夫,А.М.  俄国力学家和数学家,稳定性理论的创始人,俄国科学院院士。1857年6月6日生于俄国雅罗斯拉夫,1876年入彼得堡大学物理数学系,1880年毕业留校工作。后来他受切比雪夫院士的影响,开始从事力学系统稳定性的研究工作。1884年发表《旋转流体平衡时椭球形状的稳定性》一文,随后在流体稳定性、位势理论、微分方程与稳定性理论等方面发表了很多论文。1892年发表博士论文《运动稳定性一般问题》,奠定了稳定性理论的基础。1901年当选为俄国科学院院士。1918年因妻子死于肺结核而自杀身亡。    李雅普诺夫创立的稳定性理论指导了近半个世纪控制系统特别是非线性系统稳定性的研究,无论在理论上还是在应用上均有重要作用。(见李雅普诺夫稳定性理论)
