竺可桢竺可桢（1890～1974）中国气象学家，地理学家。中国科学院院士。字藕舫。1890年3月7日生于浙江绍兴，1974年2月7日卒于北京。1910年赴美入伊利诺伊大学农学院学习，1913年获博士学位。历任武昌高等师范学校、东南大学教授，中央大学教授兼地学系主任，浙江大学校长，中央研究院评议员、院士、气象研究所所长，中国气象学会会长、理事长、名誉理事长，中国科学院副院长，中华全国科学技术协会副主席，中国科学院生物学、地学部主任，综合考察委员会主任，自然科学史委员会主任等职。在创建气象研究所、推进气象科研、开创气象教育事业、组建早期的中国气象观测网、开展物候观测、高空探候区划、物候、气候变迁等研究方面都作出了开拓性的贡献。研究了台风分类、源地、移动及台风眼结构，精辟指出台风眼中有下沉气流存在，西太平洋台风路径之变化受远东四个大气活动中心所控制。在中国首先提出季风系统这一概念，讨论了季风的成因，比较了中国季风与印度季风的异同，明确指出它们的物理性质、致雨机制量的差别，指出夏季风强（弱）时，长江流域主旱（涝），华北主涝（旱）。首创区域气候研究，提出划分亚热带的指标，对亚热带北界的确定有决定意义。他把农业气候分析、气候区划和自然区划联系起来确定中国八大气候区，确立了气候区划和自然区划的基本轮廓。他从中国的古文献中收集整理物候、自然灾害及太阳黑子、极光等记载，研究中国近五千年的气候变迁，其成果对气候变化研究有重要贡献。主持并亲身参加了中国黄河中游水土保持、治沙，黑龙江流域、新疆、青海西部南水北调，华南热带生物，云南热带资源等自然资源的综合考察，作出了重大贡献。领导并建立了一批研究机构和野外观测实验站。著有《中国气候区划》、《东南季风与中国的雨量》、《中国气候概论》、《十年的综合考察》、《论我国气候的几个特点及其与粮食作物生产的关系》、《中国近五千年来气候变迁的初步研究》、《物候学》（和宛敏渭合著）等。图片
