激光切割  利用激光束作为热源的热切割,工作原理与激光焊相似。激光切割的温度超过11000℃,足以使任何材料气化,因此在激光切割时,除熔化外,气化也起着重要的作用。有些材料(例如碳和某些陶瓷)的激光切割过程则纯属气化过程。金属的激光切割多采用大功率二氧化碳连续激光器。切割时,喷射惰性气体流,吹除切口熔化金属,可使切口光洁平直;喷射氧气流可提高切割速度。激光切割的切口细窄、尺寸精确、表面光洁,质量优于任何其他热切割方法。几乎所有的金属材料都可以用激光切割,可切割的厚度从几微米的箔片至50毫米的板材。但激光切割设备投资很高,主要用于12毫米以下各种厚度的不锈钢、钛和钛合金、难熔金属和贵重金属的精密切割,也可用于塑料、木材、布匹、石墨和陶瓷等非金属材料的切割,如木材加工业已用激光切割胶合板、刨花板,服装行业用以大量裁剪衣料。另外,激光切割还适合于某些特殊用途,如宝石轴承打孔、外科医生用激光作为手术刀等。
