自动生产线自动生产线automaticproductionline由工件传送系统和控制系统将一组自动机床（或其他工艺设备）和辅助设备，按照工艺顺序联接起来，自动完成产品全部或部分制造过程的生产系统。简称自动线。是现代生产发展的主要趋势之一，对加速社会生产力发展、改进企业生产技术，减轻工人体力劳动具有重大意义。适用于大批量生产。加工精度和生产率较高。占地面积小。能缩短生产周期和降低成本，并保证生产的均衡。机械制造业中采用自动线，是随着汽车、拖拉机、滚动轴承、小型电动机和缝纫机等工业的兴起，在20世纪20年代开始的。最早出现的自动线是组合机床自动线。第二次世界大战后，自动线迅猛发展。根据设备的联接方式，自动线可分为：①刚性联接自动线。工序间设有贮料装置，工件的加工和运输过程有严格的节奏性，适用于工序较少、各工序节拍基本均衡的场合。②柔性联接自动线。工序（或工段）间设有贮料装置，某一台设备短暂停歇时，可由贮料装置在一定的时间内起调剂平衡作用，因而工序节拍不要求严格一致。根据工作性质的不同，自动线又可分为切削加工自动线、装配自动线、热加工自动线和综合自动线等。
