商会商会commerce，chamberof由城市工商业者组建的民间行业组织。分两种类型：①城市商人按其经营商品的类别划分组建的行业性组织。②由多个行业性商会联合组建的跨行业协调机构，称为总商会。在中国，商会始于清末，渊源于行会。民国以后，随着民族资本主义的发展，分布于全国各地，有省一级商会和全国中华全国商业联合会。它的成立打破了封建行会同业、同乡的局限，参加的工商业者中以商业资本家占多数，在抵制外货等反帝爱国运动中表现出积极的作用，但在革命低潮中表现动摇与妥协，常为商会中的上层所左右，甚至在买办商人的操纵下听命于帝国主义。中华人民共和国建立后，原商会解散成立新的工商业联合会。历史上的许多工业化国家，总商会起初按地域设置，一般一个城市设一个总商会，起工商行业联合会作用。第二次世界大战以后，随着商品经济迅速发展，商会及其他行业组织结构发生很大变化，一般分为全国性和地方性行业组织两个层次，城市中的总商会由全国性的总商会取而代之，各国的商会一般都以全国性民间组织的面貌出现，主要致力于向外国推销本国的商品。
