情报社会研究 情报科学与社会学交叉的新兴研究领域。随着情报与社会关系日益密切，情报社会研究已成为一种必然趋势，它主要研究情报的社会性质、情报与社会之间 (如情报与社会结构、经济、技术、社会文化心理等等) 的关系和相互影响。它试图解释诸如"为什么在人类社会发展的不同阶段,情报的数量有巨大的差别"等问题,力图对情报与社会的复杂关系作出系统的剖析，并从实用的角度促进情报在社会中更有效的传播和利用。1979年在美国举行的"国家情报科学研究计划圆桌会议"曾经指出，情报科学面临的基本任务之一，是研究情报社会化进程所产生的一系列社会、经济、技术问题。如果类比其他较成熟的社会学分支，则情报社会研究应建立起一套高度概括的、系统的、特定的概念和关系命题。 情报社会研究与科学社会学、传播社会学和知识社会学的关系密切，在许多研究问题上互有交叉。情报社会研究目前还处于开创时期,有关文献数量尚少,偏重采用的是结构-功能分析方法,在国家情报活动规模与社会经济状况的相关分析、情报技术对社会经济的影响、情报利用潜力(IUP) 指标等等问题上有所研究。中国情报界在1980年之后提出开展情报社会研究的问题，并在社会的情报意识、社会的情报能力等方面有一些研究。随着情报社会化和社会情报化的发展趋势，情报社会研究有可能更快地成熟起来。
