拜耳,A. 德国著名化学家。1835年10月31日生于柏林。1917年 8月20日卒于施塔恩贝格。他早年在柏林大学学习数学和物理学。1853年在海德堡学习实验化学。1858年进入A.凯库勒的实验室工作。在柏林取得博士学位。1872年在斯特拉斯堡大学任化学教授。1875年,他作为J.李比希的继承人进入慕尼黑大学任化学教授直至逝世。 拜耳着重实验室工作。19世纪 60年代初研究尿酸。1863年发明丙二酰脲(后成为大宗安眠药物的母体)。1870年研究酚醛反应作出酚酞和荧光素,1865~1885年,他研究染料,最出色的工作是靛蓝,于1870年用靛红与三氯化磷反应并还原得到靛蓝,于1878年他用苯乙酸合成了靛红,从而完成了最早的靛蓝合成方法,1883年提出了靛蓝的顺式结构式。1905年,由于他在有机染料和芳香烃化合物方面的成就,获得诺贝尔化学奖金。1881年他得到了英国皇家学会的戴维奖章。他还得到过柏林化学家代表大会的李比希奖。他著有300篇重要文章,1905年出版过两卷论文集。
