蝗总科蝗总科Acridoidea昆虫纲直翅目的一总科。世界性分布,已知1万余种。中国已知700余种。成虫体中型至大型,较粗壮。头短,头后部缩入前胸内。复眼发达,通常单眼3个。触角较体短,较前足腿节长,丝状、剑状或槌状。前胸背板发达,盖住中胸背板,近马鞍状。后足腿节特发达,胫节较长,在其两侧缘各具刺1列;跗节3节,第一跗节的腹面具有3个内垫。多数种类具有2对发达的翅,少数种类为短翅或缺翅。前翅狭长,后翅膜质,常具艳色。尾须较短小,不分节。产卵器粗短。雄虫能以后足与前翅摩擦发音。听器着生在腹部第1节的两侧。中华稻蝗渐变态。卵常有分泌物形成卵囊,卵囊的形状因种类而异。多数种类产卵于土中,以卵越冬,1年发生1~2代。若虫称蝻,外形与成虫近似,通常有5龄。在发育过程中,触角节数的增加与翅芽的增长可作为龄期鉴别的依据。陆栖性,多数种类为植食性,并且是典型的多食性。嗜食玉米、小麦、粟、黍、水稻、高粱、大麦等禾本科植物,也吃莎草科植物,是农业上的重要害虫。少数种类的形态和行为因生活区内虫口密度的不同而发生变异。在虫口密度小时,它们分散生活,个体间相互没有影响,成为散居型。也不成群迁飞。一般体色较淡。在虫口密度大时,它们互相接触,形成群栖生活,成为群居型。可成群地由发生基地迁飞到远处为害。一般体色较暗。
