传粉和受精 高等植物有性生殖的重要环节。 经过传粉和受精，植物才能产生种子，繁衍后代（见花）。 传粉是指雄蕊花药中的成熟花粉粒传送到雌蕊柱头上的过程。有自花传粉和异花传粉两种方式。典型的自花传粉是闭花传粉，如豌豆和花生植株下部的花，不待花蕾张开就完成传粉作用。异花传粉为开花传粉，须借助外力（昆虫、风力等）传送。 受精是精子和卵细胞结合的过程。花粉粒到达柱头后萌发形成花粉管，是受精过程的开始。同样有开花受精与闭花受精之别。但花粉粒能否正常萌发、导致受精的成功,除要有适宜的环境条件外,还取决于花粉粒与柱头间的相互识别和亲和。识别是由于花粉与柱头表层的识别蛋白之间的相互作用。在两者具有亲和性，并能互相识别的情况下，花粉就被柱头接受而萌发。花粉和柱头间不亲和的一种表现是花粉粒在柱头上虽能萌发，但花粉管被胼胝质所堵塞而不能继续生长。有时花粉管在花柱中生长缓慢，不能及时到达胚囊，也会成为受精的障碍。 花粉管穿过柱头，沿着花柱道（花柱中间的空心管道）或细胞间隙进入子房，通常穿过珠孔进入珠心，直达胚囊后，末端破裂，将在此之前由生殖细胞分裂产生的2个精子和内含物注入胚囊。 其中一个精子与卵融合，形成受精卵(合子);另一个精子与胚囊中的2个极核（或称次生核）融合，成为初生胚乳核。这一过程称为双受精。双受精是被子植物所特有的现象，也是其系统进化的一个重要标志。经双受精之后，受精卵发育成胚，初生胚乳核发育成胚乳，珠被发育成种皮，整个胚珠形成种子，子房膨大发育成果实，即完成有性生殖过程。花粉管之所以能沿花柱朝着胚囊的方向生长，是由于它的向化性，即花柱组织内某些化学物质具有引诱作用。从花粉落到柱头上到花粉管进入胚囊的时间，大多数植物为24～48小时，小麦、水稻仅需30分钟，但也有的植物需要数天、数月甚至1年。 气候条件对传粉和受精有很大影响。中国南方晚稻结实率低，常与低温下花粉发育不良有关。棉花落铃增加，有时是因高温多雨导致受精不良所致。
