约曼 14 ～ 19 世纪上半叶英国农民的一个阶层。约曼(yeoman)一词在中古英语中意为年青人和侍从。旧译自耕农。在13世纪末～14世纪初封建庄园解体过程中，产生了农民的小土地所有制──自由持有地制。早期约曼农主要是指地位在乡绅阶层以下的自耕农，即自由持有农。在14～15世纪农奴制解体的过程中,过去的农奴──维兰的地产变成了公簿持有地，公簿持有农的实际地位已接近小自由持有农，约曼一词的涵义扩大到所有独自经营土地的自耕农，包括自由持有农、公簿持有农和长期佃农。这时，约曼农基本上代表了整个农民阶级。但是,在历史著作中，约曼农的涵义并不是十分确定的,作者们往往给以不同的解释。其中一种观点认为，约曼农是农民阶级的上层。在英国资产阶级革命中，约曼农是革命的主力军,但这次革命没有解决农民的土地问题。在大规模的圈地运动和工业革命期间,约曼农迅速分化,他们中的少数上升为乡绅，一部分变成了租地农场主，大部分沦为雇佣工人，约曼农迅速消失。
