田菁  豆科(Leguminosae) 田菁属一年生灌木状草本。又名碱菁、涝豆。一种优良的夏季绿肥作物。原产东半球热带地区。中国以福建、台湾、广东种植最早,逐渐北移至江淮流域。现北方各地也有栽培。根系发达,多分布在20~40厘米的土层内,根瘤多而大,固氮能力强。淹水情况下可形成海绵状组织和不定根,也着生根瘤。株高2~3米以上,多分枝,茎基部常木质化。偶数羽状复叶,叶片长15~30厘米,小叶30~40对,矩圆形,叶柄长7~12厘米,有趋光性,夜间小叶闭合。总状花序腋生,着花3~6朵,黄色,旗瓣上有紫色斑点。荚果细长,15~25厘米长,成熟时易爆裂,每荚有种子20~35粒。种子矩圆形,青褐色或黄绿色,千粒重13~16克,过熟的种子种皮角质层加厚,不易吸水,成为硬子(见图)。      田菁喜温好湿,种子在12℃时才能萌发。出苗后30天内生长迟缓,以后进入快速生长期,在高温多湿条件下,每天可生长3~5厘米。耐淹能力强,如水不淹没顶端,仍能继续生长。耐瘠、耐盐,在全盐含量0.3%的土壤能出全苗,全盐含量0.5%的土壤仍能正常生长。常用作新垦盐碱荒地的先锋作物。中国南方双季稻区可先育苗,后在早稻田埂或稻行间插栽,作为晚稻基肥;旱地可与高粱、玉米等中耕作物间套种或麦茬复种;丘陵荒地或农田隙地,可作留种种植或刈割堆肥。单种田菁每公顷可产鲜草37.5吨以上;可与其他作物间作、套作或复种,每公顷可产鲜草15吨左右。鲜草含水分80%左右,氮0.4~0.6%,磷酸0.1%左右,氧化钾0.15~0.2%。配合其他饲料可喂牛、羊或打浆喂猪。种子含有胶质,可供石油工业上利用,茎杆可供造纸和剥取纤维。
