地名单一罗马化地名单一罗马化geographicalname，singleromanizationof国际交往中各国地名使用统一的罗马字母拼写形式。这是地名国际标准化的最终方向。各国的文字形式多样，影响较广的有罗马字母（又称拉丁字母）、汉字、阿拉伯字母、斯拉夫字母（又称基里尔字母），其中以罗马字母影响最广。为便于交流，不同语言的地名应有一种共同的书写形式。按联合国地名标准化会议要求：罗马字母文字国家的地名，以本国的拼写形式为准；非罗马字母文字国家，要提供一种具有官方地位的本国地名罗马字母拼写方案；各国主权范围以外的地名，由联合国地名标准化会议讨论确定。1978年9月中国政府规定，用《汉语拼音方案》作为中国地名罗马字母拼写法的统一规范。美国地名委员会和英国皇家地理学会地名常设委员会也决定于1979年采用《汉语拼音方案》拼写中国地名。所以依据《汉语拼音方案》拼写中国地名，不仅在国内而且在国际上已发挥了单一罗马化的作用。由于罗马字母及其组合在不同语言中的读音或多或少地有差异，地名的国际标准化只能是书写形式的标准化，读音上的出入往往是不可避免的。所以，地名单一罗马化只要求拼写形式相同，不要求读音一致。在单一罗马化中，中国地名依据《汉语拼音方案》拼写时，需要分词连写。中国地名委员会和有关部门在1984年12月制订的《中国地名汉语拼音字母拼写规则（汉语地名部分）》规定：除自然村镇名称外，地名中的专名和通名要分写。如黑龙江作为河名拼写为Heilongjiang,，作为省名拼写为Heilongjiangsheng；周口店拼写为Zhoukoudian，不拼写为ZhouKouDian。用《汉语拼音方案》作为中国地名罗马字母拼写法的统一规范中还规定：蒙古语、维吾尔语、藏语等少数民族语地名，按音译转写法拼写，不用汉字注音法拼写。因为汉字是固定音节，不区分声调，只表示410多个音节，在表音上有局限性。汉语拼音字母代表音素，可以灵活拼音，表音比较准确。采用音译转写法拼写，不仅在罗马字母文字中可以照用，并在俄文、阿拉伯文或其他拼音文字中都可以据此转写，有利于单一罗马化的推广。
