湘鄂西苏区湘鄂西苏区Western Hunan-Western Hubei Soviet Area Xiang一Exi Suqu湘鄂西苏区(western Hunan一westernHubei Soviet Area)土地革命战争时期，中国共产党在湖南、湖北两省西部边界地区，实行工农武装割据，建立苏维埃政权的区域。它是洪湖、湘鄂边、巴兴归、襄枣宜、鄂西北等5块苏区的总称。 1927年9月一1928年5月，在中共鄂中、鄂西、鄂北、湘西、湘西北特委和有关县委领导下，湖北省污阳、监利、石首、公安、枣阳、巴东和湖南省华容、石门、桑植等县纷纷举行农民起义，组成游击队，就地开展游击战争。在湘鄂边地区，1928年7月组成红军第4军，贺龙任军长，至1929年黝- 湘郑西苏区中心一瞿家湾6月建立了包括鹤峰、桑植两县的苏维埃政府。在洪湖地区，1930年2月组成红军第6军，旷继勋任军长，周逸群任政治委员，建立了包括监利、涌阳、石首、江陵、潜江等鄂西五县的苏维埃联县政府。1930年6月，襄(卜日)枣(阳)宜(城)地区组成红军第9军第26师，建立了襄东、宜东、枣阳、枣南县苏维埃政府。巴(东)兴(山)(称)归地区组成红军独立第49师，建立了巴兴归县苏维埃政府。这些红军的组成和政权的建立，使湘鄂西苏区初具规模。 1930年7月，红4军(后改称红2军)和红6军在公安(今南平)会师，组成红军第2军团，贺龙任总指挥，周逸群任政治委员，共1万余人。红2军团组成后，先后取得沙洋、石首、监利等战斗的胜利，巩固和扩大了洪湖苏区。10月，湘鄂西工农兵第二次代表大会在监利召开，成立了湘鄂西苏维埃联县政府，周逸群任主席。联县政府下辖江陵、石首、监利、才丐阳、潜江、天门、华容、南县、五峰、鹤峰、长阳和巴兴归等10多个县苏维埃政府，拥有7座县城，几十个集镇。在苏区之外，还有10多个县的游击区。至此，湘鄂西苏区正式形成。 10月，红2军团渡过长江进行南征，连克南县、华容、公安、津市、石门等城镇。不久，湖南省国民党军集中兵力反扑，红2军团在杨林市作战失利，主力退往鹤峰，一部返回洪湖苏区。1931年3月，红2军团改编为红军第3军，贺龙任军长，邓中夏任政治委员。随后，红3军北渡长江，经巴兴归苏区和荆(门)当(阳)远(安)地区，转移到房县，创建了以房县为中心的鄂西北苏区。从1931年1月起，在中共湘鄂西特委和联县政府领导下，洪湖苏区军民连续打破国民党军的两次“围剿”，保卫了苏区的中心区域。同年春，以夏曦为书记的中共湘鄂西中央分局成立，后又成立中共湘鄂西临时省委和省革命委员会(12月建立省苏维埃政府)。并且组成了红3军第9师，段德昌任师长。
