地球弓形激波  太阳风与地磁场相遇,在地球周围形成的激波。它的子午方向截面的结构大致如图。与通常的流体激波波阵面不同,在它的上游有由波阵面内发出的高能粒子、电磁波、阿尔文波等向上游传播。这是由无碰撞等离子体激波波阵面内的等离子体湍动中?牟ǎW酉嗷プ饔煤筒ǎㄏ嗷プ饔貌?(见等离子体天体物理学)。在地球磁尾内靠近中性线附近,经常产生不稳定的磁合并,引起磁层亚暴。这种情况同磁合并引起耀斑爆发相似。由于太阳风的结构不稳定,弓形激波的结构也不断地变化。波阵面的顶点、方向以及它与地心的距离都随着太阳风的强弱、太阳风磁场的走向而不同。波阵面顶点与地心的距离大约在14个地球半径左右,但若有异常的低马赫数的太阳风,则可延伸到30个地球半径。弓形激波波阵面的厚度主要决定于上游磁场走向与波阵面法向的夹角。若夹角大于50°,波阵面不厚;而当夹角小于50°,波阵面厚度就可以伸展到1个地球半径。波阵面内部,在绝大多数情况下,属于热等离子体和高马赫数的湍动波阵面。弓形激波波阵面的运动,主要与太阳风中切向间断面的到来有密切关系(见日地间激波和磁流间断)。
