葛洲坝水电站  中国最大的水电站(见图)。位于长江三峡出口、湖北省宜昌市境内。长江出三峡南津关后,江水被葛洲坝和西坝两岛分为三股,从右到左分别称为大江、二江和三江,葛洲坝水利枢纽建于此处。葛洲坝水电站设计装机容量为271.5万千瓦,单独运行保证输出功率为76.8万千瓦,平均年发电量141亿千瓦时,年平均利用约5190小时,1988年底全部建成并投入运行。    葛洲坝水利枢纽主要由大坝、船闸、发电站、泄水闸、冲沙闸及挡水建筑物组成。大坝全长2595米,最大坝高47米,控制流域面积100万平方公里,总库容量15.8亿立方米。整个工程分两期,共开挖回填土石方1.113亿立方米,浇筑混凝土1113万立方米,安装金属结构7.61万吨。在三江和二江兴建3条船闸,在大江和二江兴建径流式电站各一座。一期工程包括二江的发电站、泄水闸和三江的二、三号船闸、冲沙闸及其他挡水建筑物。二江电站装有7台低水头转桨式水轮发电机组,一、二号机组容量为17万千瓦,水轮机转轮直径11.3米(见图),是中国最大的低水头水轮发电机组;其余5台机组容量为12.5万千瓦。三江二号船闸是世界上最大的船闸之一,闸室长280米,宽34米,槛上最小水深5米,一次可通过万吨级船队。一期工程于1970年12月30日开工,1981年1月3日大江开始截流,历时36小时23分胜利成功。6月21日三江船闸正式通航;7月31日二江电厂一号机17万千瓦机组并网发电。1981年 7月19日,葛洲坝经受了长江百年罕见的72000米3/秒特大洪水考验,大坝等工程设施运行使用正常。二期工程包括大江电站、一号船闸、大江冲沙闸和混凝土挡水坝等。电站设计装机14台,机组容量12.5万千瓦,到1986年底已安装5台机组并投入运行。1989年葛洲坝工程全部完成,水电站总装机容量为271.5万千瓦,是目前中国装机容量最大的电站。  葛洲坝水电站的电能通过500千伏和220千伏线路送入华中电力系统,还通过葛洲坝-上海±500千伏1080公里的直流输电线路送到上海。葛洲坝水电站是华中地区的主力电站,为该地区的经济建设和人民生活提供了强大的电力。葛洲坝水利枢纽工程还有效地改善了川江峡谷航道,给内河航运带来了效益。
