低热值煤气  煤或焦炭等固体燃料气化所得热值较低的气体燃料。组成中可燃组分有氢、一氧化碳,并含有氮、二氧化碳等不可燃组分。热值约在3800~11200kJ/m3之间,易燃、易爆、有毒性。低热值煤气按来源不同有发生炉煤气、水煤气、半水煤气和高炉煤气四种。水煤气、半水煤气用于进一步化学加工;而发生炉煤气、高炉煤气则作为工业炉燃料气。    发生炉煤气  又称空气煤气,以空气或空气与蒸汽为气化剂通入气化炉内煤或焦炭的燃料层中,经气化所得的煤气。煤气组成视所用原料和气化剂的不同而异。以无烟煤为原料、空气为气化剂时,气体组成(体积%)为:氢12、一氧化碳29、甲烷3、二氧化碳4、氮51.6、其他烃类0.4,热值约为6000kJ/m3(标准状态)。从气化炉得到的粗煤气经简单净化处理(除焦油、粉尘等)后,即可用作工业炉、锅炉的燃料。如进一步净化(除硫化物等),则可用作燃气透平的燃料气,是一种廉价的工业燃料气。    高炉煤气  是炼铁时的副产物。在炼铁高炉里,焦炭与鼓入的空气作用转化成一氧化碳和二氧化碳。一氧化碳除一部分用于还原铁矿石外,其余的与其他气体一起混入高炉出口的煤气中。这种煤气中不可燃气体含量(体积%)更高,含氮58、二氧化碳11,其他为一氧化碳28、氢2.7、甲烷0.3。因此热值更低,约为3800kJ/m3(标准状态)。在冶金联合企业内,高炉煤气多用作焦炉及冶金加热炉的燃料气。
