坊上回民街在外地人或者是年轻的西安人眼里,指的是鼓楼后面的那一条小吃街.但在老西安人的眼中,真正意义上的回民街并不是在那里。而且正宗的叫法不叫做回民街,叫做“坊上”。 坊上也不是一个确定的地方,但是它却有比较固定的范围:在西安西大街广济街一带,是西安城内主要的回民聚居区。这里很奇怪,紧挨着钟楼闹市的西大街上的建筑非常低矮陈旧,没有一家大型的购物场所,甚至还有很多临时建筑。而且一过西安最繁华的钟鼓楼广场,迎面而来的西大街马上变得萧条多了。广济街是一条有着一个高高的牌楼的街道,走进去,里面却很繁华--这是一种迥异于东大街和钟鼓楼广场的繁华,或者,说它很热闹会更合适一些。在一条弯弯曲曲的狭窄的街道上面,开满着大大小小的店铺。许多带着白色帽子的回族男子人坐在店铺后面,悠闲地用卷舌头的话聊着天,一些店铺门口临街的地方,白胡子老头坐在舒服的藤椅上面晒太阳,逗弄着在街上跑来跑去的小孩子。这里的店铺主要经营的是清真食品,而且全都是手工食品,非常正宗,而且,味道也很好。所以,熟门熟路的西安人总会来这里买东西,所以,这里的生意不用发愁。这条街的历史也已经很久了,据说,原来国外的使节和来长安做生意的商家们聚居在这里,不断地繁衍生息,现在的坊上人大都是这些古老移民的后裔。他们用自己的宗教形成了高度的凝聚力,在汉人占主流的社会中,顽强地坚持了自己特有的文化生活圈子,他们的血液中还保留着精明商人和贵族的遗传因子,一直到了今天。这里的回民们都很富裕,一家有个几十万不算希奇;但是在这里,他们的子女往往读完高中便回来做生意,假如有一家出了个大学生,那简直是象中了状元一样。这里的人们相互之间都很熟悉,有的从小一起长大,一起在这条街上娶妻生子,又一起老去。无论老少,他们都虔诚地保持者做礼拜的传统,全西安最大的清真寺就在这一带。当西部大开发的历史机遇再次垂青于西安这座古老城市的时候,坊上——西安最另类的地方也开始发生了巨变,西大街正在如火如荼的建设着,坊上人要开始面对全新的环境和全新的生活,我们希望这种新生活对于坊上人是一个好机遇,期望让西安人回味无穷的清真美食还一代一代永久地流传下去。
