桑桑Morus;mulberry桑科桑属落叶乔木,偶有灌木。叶为桑蚕饲料。木材可制器具,枝条可编箩筐,桑皮可作造纸原料,桑椹可供食用、酿酒,叶、果、根皮均可入药。世界各地均有野桑生长。栽培桑的分布与蚕业有密切联系,主要集中在中国、日本、印度、前苏联等国。中国是栽桑养蚕最早的国家。自然生长的桑树树龄可达千年以上。栽培桑常修剪成各种不同的树形。实生苗主根明显,压条和扦插苗主根不明显。腋芽当年不萌发。冬芽于翌年春萌发长成叶。芽有止芯芽、生长芽、休眠芽、潜伏芽之分。枝条直立。叶互生,大多呈心脏形或卵圆形。花为单性,偶有两性花;柔荑花序;雌雄同株或异株。果实为多肉小果称桑椹。桑树在12℃以上萌芽生长,适温25~30℃,20℃以下生长缓慢。土壤适宜含水量为土壤最大持水量的70%~80%,以有机质丰富、土质疏松、土层深厚、中性土壤为宜。桑属有30多个种,中国生产的有15种和1个亚种,有1000多个品种,主要栽培品种为鲁桑系、白桑系和广东桑系。
