在内蒙古鄂托克旗境内的“百眼井”是一个千古之谜。百眼井,蒙语称“敖楞瑙亥音其日嘎”,用汉语讲就是“众狗之井”。内蒙古鄂托克旗公其日嘎乡百眼井村在一望无际的大平梁上,有一东北向西南沿伸的凹形地带,长约300米,宽约100米的地上,分布着以10米左右的间距展开的80多眼水井。旗委宣传部新闻科长高士宗说,原来这里有108眼井,因废弃多年,部分已被沙土淹没。说百眼井是千古之谜,有三个理由。一是得名之谜,蒙古族牧民称其为“众狗之井”,这是何意?这些井是一群狗刨挖出来的?还是为一大群狗饮水之用?二是如何开凿出之谜,百眼井星罗棋布,深的百十米,浅的十余米,井壁光滑,无凿戳的痕迹,也没下井的蹬阶,百且穿透一层又一层坚硬的沙岩,鬼斧神工,叹为观止,谁有如此神力?三是百眼井周边地区多为荒漠化草地,古时也没有先进的探测仪器,咋知在层层沙岩之下,会有如此甘泉?传说,当年成吉思汗在这里屯驻大军,每日携带众多的猎狗,在草原上围捕黄羊、狍子、狐狸。一日,狩猎的人们人困马乏,猎狗焦渴,草原上既无清泉也无井水,成吉思汗心急如火,命令兵器巨匠尧勒达日玛,以最快的速度找到水源地,钻出108眼水井,解了燃眉之急。从此,当地牧民就称这片水井为“敖楞瑙亥音其日嘎”
