准噶尔盆地准噶尔盆地中国第二大盆地。位于新疆维吾尔自治区北部,天山山脉、阿尔泰山脉及西部诸山间。呈不等边三角形。东西长1120千米,南北最宽处约800千米。面积约38万平方千米,海拔500~1000米(盆地西南部的艾比湖湖面海拔仅190米),东高西低。盆地西部有高达2000米的山岭,多缺口,西北风吹入盆地,冬季气候寒冷,雨雪丰富。盆地边缘为山麓绿洲,日平均气温大于10℃的温暖期约140~170天,栽培作物多一年一熟,盛产棉花、小麦。盆地中部为广阔草原和沙漠(库尔班通古特沙漠),部分为灌木及草本植物覆盖,主要为南北走向的垄岗式固定、半固定沙丘,南缘为蜂窝状沙丘。盆地南缘冲积扇平原广阔,是新垦农业区。发源于山地的河流,受冰川和融雪水补给,水量变化稳定,农业用水保证率高。除额尔齐斯河注入北冰洋外,玛纳斯、乌伦古等内陆河多流注盆地,潴为湖泊(如玛纳斯湖、乌伦古湖等)。牧场广阔,牛羊成群。准噶尔盆地内蕴藏着丰富的石油、煤和各种金属矿藏,盆地西部的克拉玛依是中国较大的油田。北部的阿尔泰山区盛产黄金。
