汞灯汞灯mercurylamp利用汞放电时产生汞蒸气获得可见光的电光源。汞灯又分高压汞灯和超高压汞灯。高压汞灯的工作汞蒸气压为0.2～1兆帕。其发光效率可达35～50流／瓦(lm／W)，广泛用于环境温度为－20～40℃的街道、广场、高大建筑物、交通运输场所作为室内外照明光源。超高压汞灯的工作汞蒸气压为1兆帕以上。该灯从长波紫外到可见光都有很强的辐射，电弧亮度极高。汞工作蒸气压越高，可见光部分越丰富，电弧亮度也越高。超高压汞灯有短弧超高压汞灯和毛细管超高压汞灯两种。短弧超高压汞灯是辐射极强的长波紫外光和可见光的点光源。广泛用于荧光显微镜、紫外分光仪、全息照相等光学仪器，也用于集成电路光刻制版工艺。毛细管超高压汞灯主要用于照相制版和彩色显像管涂荧光屏制版工艺。若将超高压汞灯的启动气体改成氙气，则可改善其启动性能，使之适用于火车头灯。
