等离子冶金 以等离子流作为热源的冶金过程。等离子枪是20世纪50年代开始出现的一种高温热源装置,它将电能转变为定向等离子射流中的热能。它的工作原理是:在一个紧缩的空间产生电弧,同时将一种气体或气体混合物从一个小孔以高速喷射出,穿过这个空间而成为等离子射流。等离子射流主要由阳离子和电子组成,也含有未电离的分子或原子。作为热源,等离子射流具有下列重要特点:由于气流的作用,电弧稳定;因为射流横断面很小,热量高度集中,可以达到非常高的温度。已有等离子枪的工作温度约在5000~20000℃之间。 等离子冶金的实验装置见图。等离子枪可以用惰性气体(氩),还原性气体(氢)及两者的混合物或其他气体作为介质,从而达到各种不同的冶金目的。例如用惰性气体等离子射流,可以熔炼高熔点金属、活泼金属,并对金属或合金(如钢)进行提纯。用氢或含氢气体作介质,可以从氧化物获得金属(铁、铝、钴、铌、钽、锆、钨等)。等离子射流还可用于分解羰基镍,得到极细的镍粉;从金属卤化物得到金属或其氧化物(如钛、二氧化钛)等。目前除用等离子射流进行钢的二次重熔已有工业应用外,其他冶金用途大多还处于研究发展阶段。
