蠓蠓Ceratopogonidae；bitingmidges双翅目长角亚目蠓科的通称。俗称小咬、墨蚊、糠蚊。分布世界很多地区，全世界约4000余种，中国已知约300种。蠓为全变态昆虫。成虫体长约2～5毫米，黑褐色。头部近球形，复眼发达，触角丝状，吸血种类口器发达，但比蚊虫的口器短。吸血库蠓类多在日出前和日落后出来活动，大量活动时形成群飞，雌雄交配以后，雌虫必须吸血才能使卵发育成熟，雌虫吸血1次可达0.05毫升。吸血后的雌虫经3～4天后卵成熟，卵多产于富有有机质的潮湿土壤、水塘、树洞、水洼等处，一般在急流中或月光曝晒处不产卵。成虫寿命约1个多月。蠓类成虫平时隐蔽于洞穴、杂草等避光和无风的场所。下雨时不活动。对活动最适宜的风速是0.5米／秒以下，风速达1.5～2米／秒以上即减少或停止活动。雨前如果闷热则活动较烈。完全黑暗时停止活动。活动半径一般200～300米。每年发生代数1～4代不等。有吸血习性的蠓侵袭人畜，传播疾病，作为病原体的宿主，是一类重要的医学昆虫。蠓类吸血可引起皮肤红肿，奇痒难忍，搔破之后可因感染而形成大片溃疡。有很多种类是丝虫病的中间宿主。
