化肥厂 又称化学肥料厂。凡是用化学方法人工制成农用肥料的化工厂，不论其产品品种如何,都可称为化肥厂,是无机化工中重要的生产单位。按照生产的化肥产品所含植物需要的营养物质，可分为氮肥厂、磷肥厂、钾肥厂、复合肥料厂和微量元素肥料厂，以及腐植酸肥料厂。按照生产规模，可分为大型、中型和小型化肥厂（见表）。化肥厂与其他化工厂相比，其特点是：①产品的吨位大，原料、燃料、水、电、汽的用量也很大，因此选择厂址要注意交通、资源、市场和公用工程等条件。②化肥是农业用的产品,产值低,利润少。因此在生产中特别注意节约,降低成本,提高经济效益。③化肥生产中，能源费用在成本中所占比重较高，如氮肥的煤（石油或天然气）、电费用占成本的70％左右，因此节约能源十分重要。1949年以前，中国仅有南京、大连两个生产硫酸铵的氮肥厂。中华人民共和国成立后，化肥工业得到较快的发展，到1984年，中国共有化肥厂1987个，遍布各省市、自治区，其中氮肥厂约占64％，磷肥厂约占 35％，钾肥厂和其他化肥厂约占1％。（见化肥工业）
