茄科茄科Solanaceae双子叶植物纲菊亚纲的一科。草本、灌木或小乔木。叶常为单叶,极少为复叶。花单生、簇生或聚伞花序,花为5基数,辐射对称,极少两侧对称,有时第五枚雄蕊退化,子房由2心皮合生而成,2心皮偏斜。浆果或蒴果。约85属3000余种。广泛分布于全世界温带及热带地区,南美洲为最大的分布中心,种类最多。中国有24属105种,全国普遍分布,但以南部亚热带及热带地区种类较多。莨菪该科许多植物具有较大的经济意义,除著名的辣椒、马铃薯、番茄、烟草外,还有许多种类有药用价值。如宁夏枸杞,其红色浆果是良好的滋补药,中药称枸杞子。性味甘平,有滋肝补肾、益精明目的作用。枸杞,药用效能与宁夏枸杞相近,品质稍差;颠茄,原产欧洲南部和中部,中国有引种;根和叶含莨菪碱、阿托品、东莨菪碱、颠茄碱等;叶作镇痉及镇痛药,根治盗汗,并有散瞳的效能。该科中原产中国的含莨菪烷类生物碱的植物很多,如赛莨菪属、山莨菪属、天蓬子属、马尿泡属、天仙子属、泡囊草属、茄参属和曼陀罗属等。
