袁宗道Yuan Zongdao袁宗道  明代文学家。字伯修,号石浦。湖广公安(今属湖北)人。27岁时会试第一,官翰林院庶吉士、编修,曾向焦□及李贽弟子僧深有问学。万历十七年(1589)归里,钻研学术,以禅宗思想研究儒学,著《海蠡篇》(今佚)。九年后复入京,官右庶子,任东宫讲席。  袁宗道钦慕白居易、苏轼,书斋取名为“白苏斋”。明万历年间,王世贞、李攀龙为代表的拟古文风仍有较大影响,袁宗道极力反对,与其弟宏道、中道志同道合,人称公安派。他认为文章要旨在于辞达。古文遗达,学古应学其达,“学其意,不必泥其字句”。而文章欲辞达,须先有“理”(思想学问),“从学生理,从理生文”,如先秦及汉唐宋诸名家,“皆理充于腹而文随之”。其次要有真情实感,“心中本无可喜事而欲强笑,亦无可哀事而欲强哭,其势不得不假借模拟耳”(以上均见《论文》)。从这种观点出发,他的诗文创作不事模拟,率真自然。游记散文如《戒坛山一》、《上方山一》、《小西天一》等;简牍散文如《答同社二》、《寄三弟之二》、《答友人》等,都情运笔端,真切感人。论说文如《读大学》、《读论语》中某些章节,浅显通达,警辟有味。但他的多数散文以士大夫的闲情逸兴、说理谈禅为主要内容,社会意义不大。诗歌创作又逊于散文,少有佳作。  著有《白苏斋类集》22卷。另著有杂剧 2种及词若干,已佚。      (鲍昌)
