居敬穷理 中国宋代程朱学派所倡导的一种道德修养方法。"居敬" 语出《论语·雍也》"居敬而行简"，意为以恭敬自持；"穷理"语见《周易·说卦》"穷理尽性以至于命"，意为穷究万物的道理。程朱理学家认为所谓"居敬",就是"心"的"主一"、"专一"、"自作主宰",不为外物所牵累；所谓"穷理"，就是"欲知事物之所以然与其所当然者而已"，亦即致知明理。因此，"居敬"、"穷理"就是主张"存天理，灭人欲"，自觉遵守封建道德的基本原则。 程朱理学家认为，"居敬"的目的在于明理。他们把"居敬"和"穷理"两者结合起来。程颐说："涵养须用敬，进学则在致知"（《二程语录》卷十八）。朱熹更明确地说："学者功夫唯在居敬穷理二事。此二事互相发。能穷理,则居敬工夫日益进；能居敬,则穷理工夫日益密"(《语类》卷九)。他认为两者互相促进，而实际上是以"穷理"为主。但是，由于他们所说的"居敬"多指闭门思过,并认为"心包万物","穷理"功夫即"尽心"功夫。因而程朱理学派的居敬穷理，是一种脱离社会实践活动的抽象的、形式主义的道德修养方法。
