圣贤  中国古代思想家的一种理想人格和道德典范。孔子认为,只有"博施于民,而能济众"的尧、舜、禹、汤、文、武、周公才算是圣人。儒家的后继者把孔子和孟子称为圣人。法家的韩非认为圣人多重才智,有巢氏、燧人氏也是圣人。他更颂扬那些"不期修古,不法常可,论世之事,因为之备"的改革家,并把他们称为"新圣"。道家贬斥一般意义上的"圣人",主张"绝圣弃智",认为只有那些无为、无事、无欲的得道之人才算"圣人"。    对于如何成圣人,也有不同理解。有的认为圣人是先天的,如孔子的学生子贡说,孔子是"固天纵之将圣";有的认为圣人是后天努力的结果,荀子说,"故圣人者,人之所积而致也"。    贤仅次于圣,是品德才能优秀的人物。先秦儒家、墨家、法家等尽管对"贤"的理解不同,但都赞成"举贤"、"尊贤"、"尚贤",认为这是治国之要道。墨子、荀子和韩非更是主张打破原有的宗法等级制度,从庶人中选拔贤能。只有道家主张"不尚贤,使民不争"。
