黑长臂猿(BIackgibbon,Creztedgibbon;长臂猿)国内分布在海南及云南南部;国外见于中南半岛。体长约500毫米。前肢比后肢长,上臂又长于前臂;手细长,手指又比脚趾长。无尾,无颊囊,具两小块黑色臀胝。雌雄的颜色不同,雄性全身黑色;雌性则金黄色,头顶及后头为黑色。两性幼体均呈淡棕色,惟头顶略带黑色。栖息于热带、亚热带林区,多在固定的范围内活动。树栖很少下地活动。群居,每群10头左右,群中仅有1只雌性成猿,其余均为不同年龄的雄猿。食物以树叶、花果及昆虫为主,亦食鸟卵及小鸟。常饮树上的积水。雌猿9岁性成熟。每年产仔1次,每胎1仔,孕期7-8个月。寿命可达30多年。数量极少,估计全国尚残存500只左右,现为我国I级保护动物。
