北京钢铁学院　　以采矿、冶金和材料工程为主的重点高等学校。1952年由原北洋大学、北方交通大学唐山工学院（见唐山路矿学堂）等五校的采矿和冶金工程系合并于北京组成。到1983年，共有13个系、23个专业，教师1342人，其中国务院学位委员会委员一人，科学院学部委员魏寿昆等三人，教授和副教授三百余人。全院有59个教研室、42个实验室，以及矿业、冶金、金属材料、压力加工、金属科学与工程、机械、热能、控制工程、冶金史、高教研究等十个研究所(室)，并设有物质结构分析、化学分析、力学性能、电子计算机等四个试验中心和冶金、轧钢、机械等实验厂。图书馆藏书43万册，有中外文期刊3300余种。出版《北京钢铁学院学报》和《高等教育研究》。建校三十年来已为国家培养冶金专门人才二万余人;共进行科学研究二千余项,其中近五百项取得重要成果，有一百五十余项获得国家或部委、省市的奖励。该校金属材料、金属物理、金属腐蚀与防护、金属压力加工、钢铁冶金、冶金物理化学、 采矿工程、 冶金机械等专业，已由国务院学位委员会评为博士学位授予单位。1984年成立了研究生院。该校与国际国内学术界有广泛的交流和协作关系，同美国、联邦德国、日本、加拿大等国六所大学有校际合作协定，共聘请国内外兼职或名誉教授四十余名。
